Court junks case vs PISTON 6

PISTON 6 acquittal

After four years, a Caloocan court has finally acquitted the six jeepney drivers, known as Piston 6, who were arrested while holding a peaceful demonstration in Monumento, Caloocan City on June 2, 2020.

According to PISTON Deputy Secretary General Ruben Baylon, “This is evidence that our collective actions against the PUVMP are just.”

The six drivers, including Baylon, were holding the “Busina Para sa Balik Pasada” protest to demand the resumption of their operations when they were violently dispersed and arrested by police on simple disobedience charges and violation of Batas Pambansa 880.

Presiding judge and criminal law expert Judge Marlo Bermejo Campanilla dropped the charges after the prosecution failed to prove the guilt of the accused drivers on the crime of disobedience.

“This further exposes the relentless oppression by the state against the militant collective action in defense of our livelihood,” added Baylon.
