PISTON members and affiliates from different cities in the National Capital Region gathered together to further strengthen PISTON’s genuine, militant, and anti-imperialist leadership of drivers and operators in the NCR region.
The assembly discussed PISTON NCR’s past struggles and fights over the years, from the implementation of Duterte’s PUVMP, to the setbacks in our livelihood and movement due to the pandemic, and to the recent protests and collective actions we launched in various cities across NCR.
The assembly established PISTON-NCR’s one-year program that reinforces our duty to ceaselessly fight against attacks on our livelihood and rights in the face of worsening economic and political crisis under the US-Marcos regime.
The assembly also approved the launch of Paaralang Medardo Roda as a national-democratic school for drivers and operators.
The highlight of the occasion was the election of the 17-member PISTON-NCR Regional Council, composed of local leaders from Quezon City, CAMANAVA, Manila, East NCR, South NCR, and PISTON Women, who will serve as the highest policy-making body for PISTON-NCR’s policies, programs, and initiatives when the Regional Congress is not in session.
From the PISTON-NCR Regional Council, Ely Villena of PISTON-Pasig was elected as PISTON-NCR Interim President and Janette Gabatin of PISTON-Cubao as PISTON-NCR Interim Secretary.
The newly elected NCR Regional Council inaugurated their term by formally endorsing Makabayan Coalition’s senatorial slate and local candidates in NCR, as well as the Bayan Muna Partylist.
In closing, Ka Mody Floranda, PISTON National Chairperson, announced the theme for PISTON’s 7th National Congress: “BAWIIN ANG LAKAS! (Regain Our Strength!)” This is planned to be held in 2025.
